Hi everyone !

Today, Drawn returns to its presence at the Paris Design Week and its exhibition at Now! le Off ! Let’s go back on the event !

Drawn : Zoom in on the Paris Design Week and Now! le Off !

For those who don’t know this fair and this exhibition, here are some explanations ! 😉

The Paris Design Week is a fair which gathers 300 participants each year, belonging to the design universe. Organized in the Docks, in the City of Fashion and Design, for and by design fans, it is punctuated by various exhibitions and evenings.

During eight days, Paris then becomes the international capital city of design and turns into a true designers village. Indeed, more than 100 designers, 200 galleries, design schools, workshops and creation studios, from across the world, present the best of contemporary creation !

So, the Paris Design Week represents with the D’days (in which Drawn also participated), a main design event.

The Paris Design Week also features Now! le Off, which brings together the design forerunners.
This flagship event of the fair is devoted to the New Talents of Design, who exhibits their prototypes. The exhibition also hosts the Emerging Editors, who present their models already on the market or close to commercialization.

Now! le Off also stands for a great opportunity to mobilize the young designers around the Rado Star Prize France contest, whose aim is to support them and highlight their talent.

The Now! le Off exhibition thus represents a true springboard for the emerging young creators, editors and designers, from all around the world.

Drawn exhibits at Now! le Off for the Paris Design Week !

From last 5th to 12th September, Drawn had the opportunity to be one of these young creators and has thus exhibited its creations at the prestigious Now! le Off exhibition.

Drawn-Now-le-Off-!

So, we want to warmly thank all those who came admire our work !

We will return to you soon for more news about Drawn ! 🙂

Hi everyone !

As you must know, we were attending to the Hello Tomorrow Conference yesterday and the day before ! So, we had the chance to meet some of you, Drawn fans ! Back to the pictures on the conference !

Hello Tomorrow Conference : zoom in on the event

For those who don’t know this conference, here are some explanations. 😉

The Hello Tomorrow conference brings together more than 4,000 pioneers and trendsetters, in science and industry. Agriculture, environment, healthcare, technologies and mobility sectors, thus gather around innovation. Indeed, the Hello Tomorrow conference aim is to highlight the most promising startups and technologies, which are building today the world of tomorrow.

During three days, more than 2,000 entrepreneurs, investors, companies and journalists meet in Paris, around several workshops and meetings.

The conference in itself lasts two days. On June 25 and 26, the public thus discovered the startup village, in which were featuring the best startups in six different industries. People could also attend to several meetings, delivered by these six industries great representatives and leaders.

Drawn : our booth at the Hello Tomorrow conference !

Now that you know all about the Hello Tomorrow conference, you can well imagine that Drawn had to be there ! 😉 So, Sylvain ran a booth Friday June 26th, on which he exhibited the logos printed by Galatéa, as part of our Kickstarter campaign ! He thus had the opportunity to meet you, you Drawn and Galatéa fans, around a photo shoot with the logos ! Drawn then became for this conference, a Kickstarter ambassador ! ☺

Galatéa also had the honor and the pleasure to make two 3D printed versions of the Hello Tomorrow logo ! These ones have been exhibited during the start-up competition semi-finale ! The small version was made out of a 100% bio sourced material ! This is again proof that Drawn is eco responsible ! 😉 With that, we let you watch its making video, signed Galatéa… !

… Also find the bigger version, shared by Hello Tomorrow themselves, on their Twitter page !

… Finally, here are the two versions reunited on stage during the semi-finale !

That’s it ! As you can see, we really loved this conference ! It was really great to participate and meet you there ! Thank you for coming ! I want to thank Hello Tomorrow as well, for whom it was an honor to make the logo !

I hope to see you soon on other events !

Bye !

It was a fantastic experience, but all great things come to an end: we’re on our way home from MakerFaire Paris today. What a first edition of the event it was… We’re utterly exhausted, but oh so happy!

Bringing Galatea to Paris and properly setting her up in time was a major challenge for the team (Sylvain Charpiot, producer, and Samuel Javelle, scripter) – no efforts were spared to make it happen.

Since the inception of Drawn, Sylvain has kept in mind the wise words spoken by Steve Jobs at his 2005 Standford University conference * and translated them into the following steps :

  • Safely setting up and connecting Galatea to its power and data inlets – Sylvain learnt a lot about clean and clever welding at an early age as he was setting up his first company, specialized in security alarm systems.
  • Sylvain used all his experience-based knowledge gathered since age 11 as a member of student associations – this played out in a mind-bogglingly successful, last-minute kind of way. See for yourselves:
  1. Drawn was officially founded on June 13th  of this year
  2. The Drawn brand was born the same day
  3. Hauling eyebolts welded onto the robots’ chassis the same day
  4. Drawn @ MakerFaire Paris T-Shirts delivered to us on June 16th
  5. Rust-proff coating applied to the the podiums on June 15th
  6. Event-related flyers delivered to us on June 17th
  7. Booth structural elements delivered on June 17th and installed on June 18th
  8. Freshly-printed business cards delivered to us in Lyon on June 18th , only a day before our departure for Paris!
  • Sylvain organized the transportation of 2 podiums weighing in total 4,5 tonnes – his commissionning engineer experience gathered during a work experience at Air Liquide in scandianvia carrying and assembling elements weighting a few hundred of tonnes came  in handy!
  • Sylvain’s good star, which has followed him around throughout his life thanks to meditation, also played a part in the process  : Galatea did not want to start on friday morning and then suddenly, for no explainable reason, jolted into action. And truck with door locking issues which somehow, the next day, just starts responding properly again…
  • And many other little but oh so meaningful things…

What an extraordinary adventure!

Special thanks to the MakerFaire Paris team for their logistical support and organizing skills, as well as their unfailing availability during the entire event. An extra special nod to Sylvain Clenet, the Event Manager, to Jean-Batpiste Le Clec’H, the Project Leader, and of course to Bertier Luyt and his nice team!

Galatea was surprinsingly docile and efficient during these 2 days! Even in our workshops a few days earlier, she didn’t behave that well!

This allowed the whole Drawn team (Samuel, Galatea and Sylvain) to truly shine in this first edition of MakerFaire Paris, by winning no less than 7 Makers of Merit awards from VIP members of the event!

* Sylvain warmly recommends watching this Steve Jobs video,  but also to practice Yoga and meditation ….

This Thursday, Galatea travelled all the way from Corbas (Lyon region) to Paris, and arrived at the 104 exhibition hall at midnight.
Our robot had to beforehand be fitted into a sturdy steel base in order to be able to operate safely in front of the events’ visitors.

Chaussée pour ses salons!
Galatea is ready to go!

Do note that this is a 1.2-ton piece of equipment!

A transportation company was found and contracted at the last minute – it wasn’t too hard to convince them to give us a hand at such short notice: they really liked our project!
Thanks to the AVLM team and especially Aurélie Belhocine, Stéphan Moreau and Philippe Amoroz, our amazing truck driver!
We would also like to thank AITB company for putting us in touch with the very affordable services of AVLM.

In order to equip our stand and allow MakerFaire Paris visitors to admire Galatea, we had to design and build our own plexiglass – safety for all, as well as a 360° view of Galatea at work! Thanks to SP team, especially Nicolas, Cédric Perrin and his sister!

The flexibility and availability of these service providers, as well as the great forklifting job provided by the Marmonier Team (not to mention the supply of various fastening equipments) contributed to a speedy and stress-free installation of our dear robot. Marmonier, thanks again – you’re definitely a great partner to have by our side…

This friday at 4pm, we were ready to launch Galatea and test her in this new environment!

One minor hiccup  is to be noted: Sylvain, scatterbrained as he can be, forgot Galatea’s key in Lyon and had to go back as fast as possible to return in time for the launch. Thanks to Laurent Martinez’ team for their help in this matter.

Galatea, running smoothly!

MakerFaire Paris is now over.
What an amazing experience it was!
More than 650 of you participated in our contest, and many, many more kind and enthused people came over to congratulate us for our achievements. Thank you very much for everything!

What a great joy for both of us (Sylvain & Samuel, the creators of Galatea) to share our experiences with so many new acquaintances. These are the kind of pure joys only FabLab creators and Start-Upers can relate to : when you make a great idea come true with all your heart, the public gives it gack to you wholeheartedly…
